Alright, my first route will be the classic one: the four Papal Basilicas. I’ll start at St. Peter’s Basilica—it’s the most iconic spot, and I want to walk through the Holy Door here first. Next, I’ll head to St. John Lateran, the cathedral of Rome. I’ll make sure to visit the Scala Santa nearby as well. My third stop will be St. Paul Outside the Walls, where St. Paul’s tomb is located, and I’ll finish at St. Mary Major, known for its stunning mosaics. It’s going to be a meaningful and enriching journey.
For a more intimate experience, I want to explore some of Rome’s lesser-known spiritual treasures. I’ll begin at Sant’Ignazio di Loyola, right in the heart of the city, famous for its breathtaking ceiling. Then I’ll head to the Church of the Gesù, a centerpiece of Jesuit spirituality. After that, I’ll visit Santa Maria sopra Minerva, with its medieval charm. I’ll end my day with a peaceful stroll up to the Gianicolo Hill, reflecting on the Eternal City’s beauty from above.
This route will focus on the spirit of the Jubilee—mercy in action. I’ll visit Sant’Egidio in Trastevere, known for its work with the poor and marginalized. Then I’ll stop by the Santo Spirito Hospital, near St. Peter’s, which has been helping those in need for centuries. Lastly, I’d love to participate in a moment of prayer or even volunteer at one of the charitable missions in the city.
